Planning "Eiffel in Love with Quilts" 2019

First came the idea

One of the purposes of the RRVQG is to educate the public about quilting, both historically and as an ongoing craft.  It's only taken us 18 years to get brave enough to produce a quilt show to foster that purpose!

The planning begins

Because our Paris is the 2nd largest in the world, we have our own Eiffel Tower with a Texas twist - a large red cowboy hat on top.  Our quilt show will be held in Love Civic Center next door, so come and snap a selfie with the tower in the background.  Even our show's title,  "Eiffel in Love with Quilts," springs from the town's icon.  We have a title and a location, what's next?

The work begins

Our planning committee, led by Show Chair Jackie Robinson, is hard at work on the details.  Vendors are being signed up, judges have been found, a quilt appraiser is coming, and guild members are providing lots of good ideas for the show.

Clicking on the Applications link above will take you to the downloadable documents section.  On that page you will find links for downloading entry and vendor applications.

Even if you do not wish to enter a quilt, you might want to have one appraised.  The form for that can also be found on the Applications link.  Lisa Erlandson, an AQS Certified Appraiser of Quilted Textiles, will be here to appraise quilts on Friday, May 10.  Find out more of her information at www.lequilts.com.

Raffle quilts

We have chosen not to do a single raffle quilt whose proceeds benefit our guild.  Instead we are donating 3 quilts to local organizations to raffle and help them raise much needed funds.  Each of the 3 organizations will sell tickets for its assigned quilt and will be at the show selling tickets in the booth with the displayed quilts.  The organizations are Habitat for Humanity, the Downtown Food Pantry, and New Hope Center which offers transitional housing for homeless individuals and families.  Click on the Raffle Quilts link above to see more information.

Special exhibits

While enjoying the quilts entered in the show, you get the added treat of three special exhibits.  One will be quilts made by Arvana Goble, one of our Guild's most talented quilters.  Wait until you see the magic she works with fabric.

The second special exhibit will be items made using the Eiffel Tower theme, of course!

The third special exhibit will be the famous The Supper quilt by Donald Locke, DDS.  Click on The Supper link on this page's header to take you to more information about this inspirational quilt.
